Wooden or metal bike wall mount? A buying guide

In short: Metal wall mounts are inexpensive and functional – good for cellars, garages and workshops. Wooden wall mounts cost more, but look like a piece of furniture and are gentle on the frame. If you want to show off your bike in your living space, wood is usually the better choice.

When wood is the better choice

  • The bike hangs in your living space and should look good.
  • You want space next to the bike for your helmet, keys or lock.
  • Your bike is a road bike, gravel bike, fixie or city bike with a diamond frame up to approx. 20 kg.

When metal is the better choice

  • The bike hangs in a cellar, garage or workshop.
  • Your bike is heavy (e-bike) or doesn't have a continuous frame.
  • Price is the most important factor.

What to look for with wood

  1. Solid wood, multiplex or chipboard? Solid wood such as oak is strong and durable. High-quality birch multiplex made of many cross-glued layers is also very dimensionally stable, and its visible layered edge becomes a design feature. Chipboard or MDF with veneer or foil is less robust.
  2. Finish: A lacquered or oiled surface protects the wood from dirt and moisture.
  3. Check the load capacity and handlebar width.
  4. Origin: Where and how is it made? Our mounts are made to order in a carpentry workshop in Germany.
