Gifts for Cyclists: Ideas for Men

In short: For men who love cycling, gifts that combine tinkering, riding and living go down well: good tools, a GPS bike computer, a retro jersey, a book on cycling history or a bike as an eye-catcher on the wall. Ideas range from around €10 to over €150. For our wall mounts: Order by 14 December = delivery before Christmas.

What do you give a man who loves cycling?

The question sounds simpler than it is, because "cyclist" covers everyone from the Sunday rider to the man who tightens every bolt on his bike himself. Before you buy, it's worth looking at three points: Which bike does he ride (road bike, mountain bike, city bike, e-bike)? Does he do his own repairs or take the bike to a workshop? And where is the bike kept at home? The answers almost automatically lead to the right gift.

We have separate guides for specific types of bike: road cyclists, mountain bikers and e-bike riders.

Gift ideas for men who cycle, by budget

Under €25

  • Chain wear gauge – shows when the chain needs replacing, before the cassette and chainrings suffer.
  • Book on the history of cycling – for long winter evenings.
  • Bar tape in his favourite colour – a little change of scenery for the road bike.
  • Chain cleaning device – makes cleaning the chain cleaner and quicker.

€25–75

  • Retro jersey in wool or vintage design – for rides and as a keepsake.
  • Merino wool base layer – warm, and barely smells even after long rides.
  • Art print or poster of a famous mountain pass or his home loop as an elevation profile.

Over €75

  • Tool case for the home workshop – with Allen keys, Torx, chain tool and cassette remover.
  • GPS bike computer – for navigation and training data, around €150–400.
  • A cycling weekend – for example a ride with friends, overnight stay included.
  • Wooden wall mount – the bike becomes part of the interior, e.g. Johannes from €169.

Giving tools: what to look out for

Tools are a classic, but only if they suit his bike. Newer bikes use lots of Torx bolts (T25), older ones almost only Allen bolts. A torque wrench is a must for carbon parts. If he already has a well-stocked toolbox, specialist items such as a chain tool or a pedal spanner extension are the better choice. If in doubt, casually ask what he was missing the last time he worked on his bike.

Experiences instead of things

Many men who ride a lot already have the most important gear. Then shared experiences are often the stronger gift:

  • A ride to a famous climb in the German uplands or the Alps, with an overnight stay.
  • A trip to a bike race as a spectator by the roadside, for example at a spring classic.
  • A repair day at a community workshop, where he can brush up his knowledge and meet new people.

Wrapped with a card and a small item to hold, such as a water bottle, an experience also looks good under the tree. More ideas: Gifts for cyclists who already have everything.

When does a Bicycledudes wall mount fit?

If his bike currently stands in the basement, in the stairwell or in the way, a wall mount is a gift that's visible every day. Our mounts are made of oak or birch and are made to order in a partner carpentry workshop in Germany.

  • He likes things simple? Henry (€65) – two 8-sided stacks in oak.
  • He collects helmets, keys and lights? Clemens from €149 with a flap and storage compartment.
  • He values design? Johannes from €169, German Design Award 2019.

A wooden mount isn't suitable for e-bikes over 20 kg or bikes without a top tube. In that case, go for tools or clothing instead.

Checklist: does a wall mount suit the recipient's bike?

  • Has a top tube, weight under about 20 kg?
  • Handlebars wider than approx. 60 cm? Then the front wheel turns in, but the bike still holds.
